Fortune Magazine Then And Now

Want to see a fun little romp through a vintage past? Check out the 1930s-era magazine cover illustrations thrown back by Fortune at fortune.com/2017/12/26/fortune-winter-holiday-covers-1930s.

Fortune Magazine has a long and (ahem) storied history, dating back to 1930 when the term “fortune” applied to far fewer people. But it’s what Fortune (now a property of the Time, Inc., family of publications) produces contemporarily that warrants its continued attraction, relevance and strong circulation across the country through to this day.

Fortune covers anything that might have anything to do with money and the legitimate making of it. To wit, the magazine covers beats as rangy as cybercrime (fortune.com/2018/01/28/jackpotting-atms-cash) and innovations in food technology (http://fortune.com/2017/12/19/silicon-valley-meatless-meat) to the business of retail beauty (See this article - How Macy's Is Turning Beauty Store Bluemercury Into Its Secret Weapon) and human-interest news from around the world (fortune.com/2018/01/28/ingvar-kamprad-ikea-founder-dies).

I haven’t been able to locate any digital archives of Fortune articles from their 1930 editions, but chances are they weren’t back then talking about Swedish furniture and meatless meat.
